According to a source of the LA Times, The CW is working on gathering the rights to bring Koushun Takami’s Battle Royale cult classic to American television screens. This isn’t the first time (Neal Moritz, producer of I Am Legend and Roy Lee producer of The Departed both had a try) discussions and plans have been made to bring Battle Royale to the states, but so far no one has been able to finalize a deal.
Anchor Bay timed the release of the DVD/Blu-Ray Battle Royale Collection to coincide with the premier of The Hunger Games. Which has sparked interest in the franchise. Feel free to test this to be sure, but this NerdBastard would put big money down that if you Google any post about The Hunger Games, some where down in the comments section at least one fan has posted a comment about The Hunger Games ripping off Battle Royale. This NerdBastard is a fan of both franchises and hopes that both continue to thrive.
What do you think? Can the ultra violence of Battle Royale be translated to television? Is The CW the Network to do it?
