After the tremendous splash it made at San Diego Comic Con, Guillermo del Toro is trying to build on that hype to create a proverbial Tower of Babel of hysteria for his next film, Pacific Rim.
As mentioned in this interview with the L.A. Times’ Hero Complex blog (in partnership with Nerdist), by the time Pac Rim comes out next summer, it will have been five years between films by del Toro, the last one being 2008’s Hellboy: The Golden Army. That’s a lot of time between projects, not Terrence Malick long of course, and it’s not like he was idle that whole time (*cough*TheHobbit*cough*), but the giant aliens versus giant robots premise of the film sounds right up del Toro’s alley. And the Comic Con crowd seemed to agree.
