Even if you’re not all that enthusiastic about Jose Padilha‘s remake of RoboCop (and hey, who could blame you?), it’s getting harder and harder to ignore how cool the cast is. We’ve already got Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Laurie and Jackie Earle Haley, among others, and now it seems the flick has landed one of the baddest dudes to ever step into an HBO crime drama.
Aw yeah, RoboFriends. It looks like Michael K. Williams – best known for his badass roles as Omar Little on The Wire and Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire – is in final negotiations to join the cast of the flick. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll be playing the partner of the lead character, Alex Murphy (played by Joel Kinnaman), and he’ll be very “tight with Murphy’s family.” So he’s gone from crook to cop for this role, but I know he’ll still be hardcore. Plus, every robot needs a cool best friend.
This is shaping up to be the kind of movie that some of us will have to love and hate. It’ll be like “Damn, why the hell did they remake RoboCop? But holy shit, Michael K. Williams and Gary Oldman were badass!” That’s a frustrating duality, but with a cast like this I’ll take what I can get.
Because, as Omar would say, “a man got to have a code.”
