Ian McDiarmid Says He’ll Reprise Emperor Palpatine in the Live-Action ‘Star Wars’ Series if Needed

Ah yes, the ever in-production, beleaguered live-action Star Wars television series. Some days I wonder if that project will ever see the light of day, and one of those days, is today. Because if it were to happen, if the live-action series with 50+ hours of scripts chronicling events between Episode III and Episode IV were to happen it could include Ian McDiarmid reprising his role of the Emperor, if the show calls for it.

At this very moment McDiarmid is attending his very first Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, and when asked if he’d play Emperor Palpatine again responded,

It would be nice if one day they would be followed up…who knows? Who knows if Palpatine would be in it? It could be like A New Hope. There could be a terrific representative — and by god, Peter Cushing was a terrific actor — doing the emperor’s bidding. If he happened to pop up in the script I would hate if it was to go live and someone else were to be in it.

If there was a reason to jump start this live-action Star Wars series, there it is! Who wouldn’t want McDiarmid delivering more of Palpatine’s UNLIMITED POWER!? Sure, sure, they keep claiming current technology just isn’t up to snuff to bring their series to life – something I find very hard to believe – but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t work on a Palpatine prequel. Maybe. Oh come on, PLEASE.

What say you? How badly would you like to see McDiarmid reprise his role as the most sinister of Sith?
