Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Coming to ABC

We knew there was a Marvel TV show in the works over at ABC and oh how minds wobbled at the possibilities. My favorite theory belonged to Russ Fischer of /Film who seemed to wonder if the show might be something like the Marvels series, which is an all-time favorite of mine. Sadly, that isn’t going to be the basis of this Marvel show, no for this one we’re goona take a look inside the shadowy S.H.I.E.L.D. agency with Joss Whedon co-writing the pilot script with his brother Jed and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen. Jed and Maurissa previously worked on Dollhouse, Doctor Horrible, and Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The show will be co-produced by Jeph Loeb, who runs Marvel’s television wing on the days that he isn’t thoroughly fudging up (which is a substitution for the term “fucking up”) Wolverine’s back-story. Joss Whedon may direct the pilot.

No word yet on if any Avengers or other Marvel movieverse characters or actors will appear on the show. With How I Met Your Mother not yet set for a ninth season, might Cobie Smulders‘ character Maria Hill have a role in the S.H.I.E.L.D. Weekly Adventure Hour (my suggested title)? How about some of the characters riding the Marvel bench like Carol Danvers or maybe Abigail Brand who was the head of S.W.O.R.D., which is a sister agency of S.H.I.E.L.D. that deals with alien threats. Me thinks S.W.O.R.D. and Brand (or someone a lot like her) might be particularly relevant in a post-Chitauri invasion world and the fact that Whedon created Brand during his Astonishing X-Men run might also be a reason to think that she (again, or someone a lot like her) could be an option… or not.

That’s my guess anyway, what do you… blah blah blah, obligatory request for reader comments. Bye.
