Ok, wait… what? Indiana Jones part 5? I must have willingly blocked this one out… But seriously, didn’t they learn their lesson from the fourth one? And I thought George Lucas had decided he wasn’t doing any more films? Apparently, some people are talking about it, particularly the cast and crew of the previous flicks.
Karen Allen (the lovely Marion from the rest of the franchise), in a recent talk with movies.com to celebrate the release of Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, had a few things to say about whether she’s get on board a potential fifth installment of the Jones chronicles.
I would! And I, in fact, just talked with Steven Spielberg recently—we e-mailed back and forth, and I said, ‘What should I say? I’m doing this publicity, what should I say if people ask me that question?’ And he said, ‘It’s in George’s [Lucas] hands! I’m game,Harrison’s game, and now it’s up to George to write the script or to get the script organized, and the story.’ And so I think it’s—they want to do a fifth, from what I understand, but they don’t want to do it just to do it, they want to do it if they can come up with a story that everybody is happy with and that everybody likes.
You heard it – Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are on board. And while more Indiana Jones might be cool, I have to wonder whether Lucas returning to film would be a good thing or not. Not to mention that Ford is getting on in years. He already looked like a lump of sand when doing stunts for the last film. What would the new one be titled, Indiana Jones: The Quest to the Toilet?
My suggestion, if they wanted to keep going, is to loot the franchise’s potentially rich past. Jump to one of those blank spots between movies, recast, and make a new story with fresh actors. Indiana Jones is ultimately about the adventure, so is it really necessary that we see Ford, Allen or any of the others? Plus, doing a past story would have the added bonus of being able to leave Shia LaDouche out of the mix!
What do the loyal NerdReaders have to say about this? Geriatric Indy? Let the franchise rest in peace? Recast and keep going?
Thanks to geektyrant for the heads-up.
