One of the controversial issues for Tolkien purists has been Peter Jackson‘s addition of known Lord Of The Rings characters that are not in the original Hobbit work, even going so far as introducing a brand new character specifically created for the Hobbit movie trilogy, a female Woodland Elf warrior called Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly (Lost).
I wasn’t very worried though, Jackson did such a wonderful job on the LOTR trilogy, capturing the books magic and heart, that I’m willing to give him lots of rope when working on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
As a completely new character, no one had any concrete idea what Tauriel would look like, how she would dress, or style her hair. Now we, and Cosplayers everywhere are getting a first look at Lilly as Tauriel thanks to the packaging on some Hobbit toys coming out with the movie’s release.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly several months ago, Lilly let us know a little about the character of Tauriel:
“She is a warrior. She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly.”
What do you think about the addition of this character to the Hobbit trilogy? We’ll probably not see much of her in the first film, but the word is to expect to see lots of the character in the second and third films.
