Marvel Fan Boys (& Girls!) everywhere were pretty excited about the announcement that Joss Whedon had been put in charge of creating a television show based on Marvel Comics super secret spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Forum speculation was rampant about who would be on the show and what direction the S.H.I.E.L.D. should take.
Whedon had said that the show would consist of new characters and not rely on established characters from Marvel Movie Universe. Finally, there are some new and interesting tidbits about the show’s development and the characters we can expect to see. TV Line got a hold of some character personality descriptions:
- Skye – This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.
- Agent Grant Ward – Quite the physical specimen and “cool under fire,” he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He’s a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he’s the kind of guy that grows on you.
- Agent Althea Rice – Also known as “The Calvary,” this hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot. But her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged.
- Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons – These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.
Even though they won’t take a major part in the show, there are sure to be some on and off screen cameos by the major marvel heroes, Nick Fury, and Agent Maria Hill, but what really interests me is seeing some of the lesser known (To the general public) heroes and villains.
HYDRA and AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics which has been seen in set pictures of the upcoming Iron Man movie), should have major roles as the adversaries in the show. I’d love to see a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent go undercover into one of those two villainous organizations.
Considering The Avengers short, Item 47, S.H.I.E.L.D. should do some cleaning up after Avengers battles and perhaps encounter some scientists and inventors trying out their crazy new inventions, not to mention those wanna be heroes and villains that get in the way of those trying to maintain law and order.
What are you looking for in the new series, what marvel character are you hoping to see pop up in S.H.I.E.L.D.?
