The first five episodes of Doctor Who have come and gone, and it’s a long wait until the Christmas special arrives. Still, the changing of the guard is done, with the Ponds saying goodbye and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) set to make her entrance. In a recent interview, Matt Smith had some words of praise for his new co-star as well as a few things to say about the shifting relationship between The Doctor and his companions and how it will be a different game with Clara as opposed to Amy and Rory.
Or, in his own words:
Jenna is pretty smoking. She is doing really great, coming into something so big she has done so well.
I think people are going to really like her. She works incredibly hard and is incredibly detailed. She is a joy and I lucked out again.
I look back to my first day and I was like a rabbit in a headlights. She is much more assured than me. But I have tried to help her into the process of making the show.
It is a big lifestyle change. She will be a fantastic companion.
I was thinking about it the other day and Rory used to take care of Amy quite a lot, so the Doctor became a weird old grandfather.
He was ostracised in some way. So it is nice having a different dynamic.
That is what is exciting about the show, you kind of get a first episode again. I think all these stories come to the end of their cycle.
The Ponds had a wonderful time.
Though no definite air date for the Christmas special has been announced, it is likely to be… well, right around Christmas, of course. This Nerdbastard can’t wait to see what Clara will bring to the table.
Thanks to blastr for the heads-up.
