With out question, the years most shocking news goes to the buyout of LucasFilm by Disney. The second most ear bleeding news, however, has got to be the identity of the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel.
It looks like Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming together faster than expected as sources tell Variety the studio is in early talks with Jamie Foxx to play the villain in the movie. Though the studio would not comment on the character sources have also told Variety that Foxx would play Electro in the pic.
And yet, Donald Glover remains uncast as Spider-Man.
Jamie Foxx is a fine actor (I mean hey, he did win an academy award), but I can’t see this. And no, this has nothing to do with a black actor playing a white character. I personally think race doesn’t matter, so long as the character is done right. My issue is…I still think of his Living Color skits every time I see him. I can’t take him seriously.
For those not in the know, here’s a little info on the character. Electro was first introduced as a Spider-Man villain in The Amazing Spider-Man #9, which was released in February 1964. The villain was originally an electrical engineer named Maxwell Dillon – traditionally drawn as a white guy – who was involved in a lightning accident that caused his body to turn into an electrical capacitor.
Guess this means that they are no longer going with the Goblin killing Gwen Stacy story line?
