Disney is Planning a ‘Boy Meets World’ Spin-off Show

There are some things in life that should never be continued.  Jersey Shore and Christmas music a month before December are two of the obvious ones, but nobody saw this coming in a thousand years.

Disney, in all its glorified wisdom, has brought it upon themselves to revive the 90s’ coming of age series Boy Meets World – through a spin-off! Do what you want with Star Wars, Disney, but leave the single greatest series of the decade alone.

According to TV Line, the new series, known only under the title of Girl Meets Worldwill follow the offspring of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence  (played by Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel respectively) as she grows up, much like her father did in the series that ran from 1993 to 2000. While it sounds like a great idea, and TV Line even mentioned the network is looking to Savage and Fischel to reprise their roles from a decade earlier, personally it feels like a foul.

Girl Meets World may allow a new audience to experience the show, but trying to update story lines and situations from its predecessor just rubs this nerd the wrong way. The show was perfect for its generation and the writers of Boy Meets World were able to catch “lightning in a bottle”, even with that one episode that co-starred a screaming Jennifer Love Hewitt.

This feels like Disney is just going to try and replicate it but mix in the melodramatic crap of Degrassi.

What do you think? Does Girl Meets World sound like Disney’s next big hit or just another wasted show?

Assuming they can get Savage and Fishel (which I have read hasn’t happened yet), I think it might be ok. However, if Shawn and Eric aren’t part of the show too, I’m not sure how interested I will be in the show. It also kind of depends on if it will pick up how the show left off back in 2000. By that I mean the show started off really cute and funny but the subject matter of the shows in the last couple of seasons made it very depressing to watch. Life is depressing enough, I don’t need my entertainment to depress me even more.
