‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot Gets a Budget

If you were around in the mid-90s, you may remember the birth of horrible video game films.  One in particular, Mortal Kombat, managed to upset the stomach while at the same time spawning several sequels.  In order to erase the crimes of the past, the Mortal Kombat franchise will see an update and the numbers on the budget have just come in.

Kevin Tancharoen, the man with the plan, will get a decent-sized pile of cash, to the tune of $40 or $50 million.  This is just the starting budget too, so if the powers-that-be like what Tancharoen puts together, he might see an increase in his funding.  Tancharoen is known by many as the creator of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, a take on the franchise that is unique in its vision.  Unique enough to warrant a briefcase full of C-notes to make a movie, anyways.

It may end up pretty, at the very least, but whether it can avoid becoming the train wreck that the majority of other Mortal Kombat projects are remains to be seen.

Thanks to Screenrant for the heads-up.

oh come now, the original wasn’t THAT bad. It was probably the better of the bad video game movies of the 90′s.
