The end of the year and the beginning of the next heralds the coming of more than just a change in date. It is that time of the year when studios start to hype their big-money movies to become Academy Award nominees. Warner Brothers has plenty to bring to the table this year and one property in particular looks to be getting a major push – The Dark Knight Rises.
Usually, comic book flicks (and action flicks in general) only have technical awards to look forward to. The Dark Knight Rises is likely to be a major contender when it comes to things like cinematography, art direction, costume design and the like. But Warner Bros. wants more! So they’re pushing the bloody hell out of this thing in pretty much any category they can justify.
Check after the jump for the full and rather massive list of the categories they hope to be included in:

Wow… okay. I guess they can feel free to try, but no movie has had a sweep of nominations like that since probably Titanic, and even that one boasted no legitimate claims to acting (no, Kate Winslet’s performance does not count as legitimate – or acting for that matter). And while Michael Caine did do a smash-up job, I’m guessing that WB is reaching.
And, on a personal note, Marion fucking Cotillard for Best Supporting Actress!?! Seriously? She was one of the absolute worst parts of that film. They could have edited her part out of the movie completely and replaced it with a dancing animated hippo fondling itself and spouting her lines in verse and it probably would have turned out better. Please WB, at least stay somewhat within the realm of reality.
Ok, rant over. Sorry about that.
But we shall see what happens when the nominees are officially announced on January 10th.
Thanks to collider for the heads-up.
