You know, one of these days we’re going to report some actual Star Wars VIII news.

Who’s going to direct Episode VIII? That is the question of the year. A top choice among fans since word of a new Star Wars first broke, was Brad Bird. Basically, because he’s never done anything wrong in the history of ever. He’s helmed such critically heralded films as The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, so…yeah. Fans even went as far as to create a campaign video promoting the idea of hiring the director for the job.

Well, I hate to shit in your cereal, but Bird is out.

Bird shot down rumors  today -via Twitter- that he won’t be involved in the production of the 2015 release. Instead, he plans to move forward with another project at Walt Disney Pictures, a science fiction film currently being called 1952.

Wow, another one bites the dust. I dunno if you’ve been keeping track, but here’s a list of directors A-List directors who have passed on the gig. Steven Spielberg, Guillermo Del Toro, Ben Affleck, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams, Colin Tervorrow and Jon Favreau. Cripes, we’re quickly running out of capable people. Makes me wonder if any director is brave enough to spear head the franchise.

I literally have never heard of Brad Bird until now. And he’s done no wrong because he’s barely done anything! Who thought of Bird among the list of capable directors? Or Tarantino for that matter. As amusing as that would be who REALLY ever thought Tarantino would do Star Wars? I mean come on. But yeah, Bird may have helmed some OK movies but I would never think anyone would name him as one of the top suggested names.
