There’s a right and wrong way to make a supernatural love story. Twilight , for example, is how NOT to do it. There’s a film coming out, however, that tells a better love story than Twilight because it is (thank gawd) almost nothing like Twilight.
The film in question is Jonathan Levine and Summit Entertainment’s zombie romantic comedy (or zom-rom-com) Warm Bodies. Based on the novel by Isaac Marion, it stars Nicholas Hoult as R, your average everyday zombie, who feels lost among the hordes of undead. That is, until he begins to fall in love with Julie (Teresa Palmer). Along the way, their connection starts off a chain reaction which may affect the future of civilization and conceivably reverse the zombie plague.
When the trailer for this zombie apocalypse/romantic comedy hit a few weeks back, it surprised (mostly) everyone. Myself included. Initially, I assumed it was going to be Twilight but with stupid-sexy/metrosexual-zombies instead of stupid-sparkling-vampires. I thought it was going to be one of those “serious” romances, but nope… it’s purely comical and satirical. The corky, funny zombieland humor changed my perspective from “Efff that!” to “I’m gonna see that.”
Truly, this is how you do flesh-eating monsters with heart.
Anyway, Summit Entertainment has released a second new trailer for Warm Bodies. It’s not as lively (no pun intended) as the first trailer, but it still looks to be a nerdtastic movie.
Warm Bodies will be chomping it’s way into theaters February 1st, 2013.
