Now that everyone has calmed down and is finally in their post-“Oh my God! The Star Trek trailer has released!” phase, it’s the perfect time to drop fresh Star Trek Into Darkness news. Thanks to a recent press screening of J.J. Abrams anticipated sequel, a few special pieces of information made their way to us courtesy of Coming Soon‘s Silas Lesnick.
In a series of tweets, Lesnick confirmed a lot of what many of us have been predicting, but with a few added tidbits of knowledge we might not have expected. Check out what he had to say during his screening via Twitter (after the jump).
Alice Eve‘s role being revealed as Carol Marcus – Kirk’s love interest and the mother of Kirk’s future son David – was something speculated since her initial casting. Seeing as how in the original storyline Marcus had a connection to Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Gary Mitchell, they’ll likely be tied together in some way for the new Star Trek as well. Abram’s may be trying to send people for a loop with the whole “John Harrison” code name, but we won’t be fooled.
As for the confirmation of the Klingons, I think it can be best said as “Hell yes!” J.J. had to cut their appearance from the first Star Trek, so this increased role in the sequel does their return some due justice. The blending of their original series look and the ridged foreheads they’ve since become known for is interesting. Having the Klingon home world involved is going to make many a nerd burst with joy.
We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out though, since even with these reveals the film is still under some tight wraps. Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch hits theaters everywhere May 17th, 2013.
