We’ve heard rumors of its reawakening for quite some time, almost like a ghost story you would tell to nerds in convention halls – a sequel to 2004’s Chronicles of Riddick. At one point we even saw concept art, but after that it all faded away. At least until Vin Diesel took to Facebook, that is.
According to the star and his official Facebook page, Riddick, the continuation to the Chronicles of Riddick, will be in theaters and IMAX everywhere as of September 6th, 2013. Another movie with Vin grimacing at the camera in between his copious amounts of fight scenes and cliche dialogue? Be still our beating hearts.
In this Universal Pictures film written and directed by David Twohy, Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. His only way off is to activate an emergency beacon and alert some mercenaries who then rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. Hindering his escape are not only the local alien predators, more lethal than any human he’s encountered, but two mercenary ships looking to cash in on his head. The first are a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second group is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Five bucks says Diesel is sucking in his gut, but other than that this looks like the R-rated film that Riddick actually deserves to be.
Our guess, seeing as how Karl Urban is returning as Vakko, is that he will be the second of the two Mercs looking to kill our anti-hero. That could just be our simple fanboy dreams though, so we’ll have to see how it all plays out in 2013 won’t we?
What do you think about the announcement?
