The last time we saw Mike Mignola‘s Hellboy on the big screen was in 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army and while filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has always remained rather positive that a third outing would happen, it is starting to look unlikely. Speaking with Latino-Review the Pacific Rim director gave an update on the cinematic future of the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator/Beast of the Apocalypse:
“Well, a couple of weeks ago or months ago, I did make a couple of phone calls to test, to gage the possibility of doing that because it’s a big movie. There’s no takers for a movie of that size. The two movies made their money back and a little bit. They were financially good, but one was fifty and the other one was eighty, eighty five. This is a hundred and forty. So no one wants to do that leap, from the financial side. So unless we find a way to do the mother of all kick starters.”
So… what the hell are we waiting for? The man says he needs $140 million raised on Kickstarter so lets start… kicking? Is that the right terminology? Admit it, you want to see Ron Perlman suit up as the man with the red right hand one more time. With any luck, after Pacific Rim obliterates the box office this summer, someone will have the foresight to give the man the money to make the movie. If not… I’d be more than happy to toss money into a Kickstarter to support it, I’m just $139,999,978.32 short at the moment. Does Kickstarter accept cheques?
