A couple weeks back Billie Piper confirmed she would not be returning to Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary celebration. This week, Freema Agyeman confirmed with Crave she wouldn’t be in the anniversary special, either. I’m beginning to think no former companions are going to make a return appearance on Doctor Who for the anniversary, and that gives me a sad. I mean, no Rose or Martha? That only leaves Donna, Catherine Tate, and I don’t think any of us want to see her head explode from remembering The Doctor.

Agyeman won’t be completely mum during the show’s golden anniversary, adding,

I’m doing two things for the 50th but nothing to do with being in the drama.

I got misquoted hideously once saying that there are some rumblings going on about being involved in the 50th in terms of the drama. It’s not. It’s in terms of conventions and interviews and things like that, which we’re all doing stuff to promote the 50th. We have to. It’s the Doctor Who family and we want to.

Which is all well and good, but what is the BBC, Steven Moffat, and co. planning for the big 5-0? If people are beginning to blatantly state they’re not involved, then those in charge must know who is involved, right? And what does this mean for David Tennant? He’s the one man everyone assumes will make a return appearance but hasn’t said a peep about whether it’s true or not. If these companions are able to confirm their un-involvement, what does this mean for his involvement?

Earlier this month Tennant was appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show and mentioned the BBC had told him, “that anything about the Doctor Who 50th anniversary must not be mentioned on television.” He admitted to not knowing anything, but why be so serious about keeping him quiet? Hmm?

It’s clear we’re not going to know what’s happening for Doctor Who‘s 50th until the powers that be want us to know. Are you sad neither Rose or Martha will appear again? What companion or past acquaintance of The Doctor’s do you really want to see return?
