Sigh. Okay, so here we go again…
As previously reported, sibling film producers Megan Ellison and David Ellison announced late last year their intention to team-up to make a fifth Terminator movie. Well, one good team-up deserves another, I guess. It’s been announced that screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis and filmmaker Patrick Lussier will be putting their heads together to generate a new script.
Both writers are accomplished in their own, unique ways. Kalogridis wrote the pilots for Birds of Prey and the Bionic Woman remake, the screenplays for Alexander, Shutter Island, and James Cameron’s Battle Angel, and served as an executive producer on Avatar. Lussier, meanwhile, began as a film editor (for Wes Craven particularly) before graduating to directing the Dracula 2000 films, the My Bloody Valentine remake, and the exploitation-themed Drive Angry, which he also co-wrote. Currently, Lussier is developing Halloween III.
So what do we know about the storyline? Uh… Well, back when Justin Lin and Chris Morgan were on the project, directing and writing respectively, they intended their film to be a sequel to Terminator Salvation. Since then there’s been talk of a reboot, but a deal for that pitch was never picked up by the studio. The only thing we do know is that Megan Ellison has promised that the rating will be R, story details are, as they say, in the ether.
Still, the teaming up of Kalogridis and Lussier is, at least, interesting. I’d like to hear what they come up with before I’ll completely write-off going back to the Terminator well, but we’ll see…
More news as it develops.
