Fairy tales are going no where anytime soon. It’s superheroes and fairy tale on the horizon folks, and one name is dominating both genres: Disney. Sure, you could say it’s because they aiming to own every franchise ever, but they also know how to get the ball rolling on projects stuck in pre-production hell. Mark Romanek was originally tasked to direct this live-action adaptation of Cinderella, but when he walked away things halted. Cate Blanchet has also been tied to this flick as the wicked stepmother and hallelujah things have begun moving again because I’d hate to think we’d be denied seeing her at her worst. And by worst I mean best, because, guys, she’s gonna kill it as the wicked stepmother. You saw her go all crazy evil Galadrial, she’ll be amazing.
And coming to the rescue is actual fuckin’ knight! How cool is that? That is assuming these negotiations don’t fall through, and how I hope they do not. Kenneth Branagh, sorry, Sir Kenneth Branagh is in talks to takeover as director, reports Vulture. Filming would begin in the fall and we could potentially see Cinderella in theatres come 2014. Still no word on who’d play the title role, but if Branagh agrees I’m sure they could snag some young ingenue in no time. There’s already a script from Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) but Vulture also mentions Chris Weitz (Twilight: New Moon) is working on another draft.
Does this not sound like match made in Hollywood heaven? I mean, Shakespeare and Thor are kind of like fairy tales, right?
