This weekend, between brief and intermittent acts of football, TV audiences will see the first trailer for Iron Man 3 (you can see the teaser here.) When the Shane Black directed movie hits theaters on May 3rd it will be the starting point for Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic universe, a phase that seems to be taking a bit of a darker tone. If you’ve watched any of the previous teasers, you see that things won’t be to calm and easy for Tony Stark and as more details start to come out it only seems to get darker.
After the jump we have the just released poster that shows the path that Stark is on in this movie (spoiler alert, its not up) plus we have Robert Downey Jr. giving some insight on the films villain, the ominous Mandarin, played by the incomparable Sir Ben Kingsley (spoiler apparently he is awesome) and something that is just a big ass cosmic sized spoiler. Just so you know.
Well, that that doesn’t look good, does it? As we have seen before in the teasers, it looks like Stark takes at least a few serious beatings in the movie both emotionally physically. If the above poster is any indication Tony is having a bad couple of days this time.
The man behind all this is of course famed actor and non-Asian Sir Ben Kingsley as the nefarious Mandarin. Early reports say he brings an amazing performance in the movie and recently in an interview with Entertainment Weekly Robert Downey Jr. continue to praise his portrayal.
“Sir Ben is probably going to steal the movie. There are a lot of contenders who may, but right now he’s probably at the top of that list. He came in as, obviously – speaking of training – as such a technically proficient instrument. And then what proceeded to happen was the release of more vintage, old-school Favreau [improv] stuff with a Shane Black twist on it. It was kind of frightening to witness, I’ll tell you that much.”
So, is Iron Man 3 all grim and bleak? Maybe not, because nothing brightens up a bad couple of days like a nice new pair of shiny space pants. Yes, space pants. The next rumor and possible spoiler comes from toys, which are increasingly become a reliable source. Earlier images of the Iron Man Deep Space Suit toy from Funko leaked and shortly after slowly began disappearing at the request of Marvel (sorry.)
The pictures of the toy and its possible plot tie in lead the leading edge of Marvel Movie new spoilers, Latino Review, to investigate further. What did they find? Oh just the possibility that at ‘the end of Iron Man 3, Tony actually does go up into space to hook up with the Guardians of The Galaxy where [they] also hear he appears at the end of that movie as well.’
Well crap. With Guardians of The Galaxy being the first new movie to the Marvel movie universe in phase two, giving it a Iron Man 3 leadin will certainly help sell it to mainstream audiences. PLUS – with some of the other GotG rumors floating out there this could also mean Downey and Adam Sandler interacting on the big screen making it truly the worst experience of Tony Stark’s life.
