The Amazing Spider-Man was a scrub of film, a scrub that can’t get no love from me. The reboot lacked character development and suffered from extremely lazy writing. It was messy collection of ideas. Ultimately, it failed to bring something new to a familiar tale. Regardless, and much to my dismay, it was successful enough to warrant a sequel.
In fact, production on Amazing Spider-Man 2 started yesterday. Director Marc Webb tweeted a picture which showed how they’re shooting the film on actual film, and not in 3-D digital like he did on the first flick. You can read more on that HERE.
So… what’s happening in the sequel? If you’ve missed some recent headlines, the second installment is said to be “electrifying”. Instead of feeding you internet gossip, we have an official synopsis for TASM 2:
In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
The movie was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014.
After sitting through Spidey’s origin story (for a second time), maybe the sequel can overcome that profound feeling of ‘been there, done that’?
