While a majority of the world has known for some time that J.J. Abrams will take part in directing Star Wars Episode VII, the news of the two reported spinoffs appears to be taking a bit longer to trickle down. Most of the original cast once involved in the franchise have already been asked if they’ll be involved in some way, but it looks like the news may have missed a Jedi.
During his promoting of Jack the Giant Slayer on Jimmy Kimmel Live! actor Ewan McGregor, the prequel’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, received the news firsthand resulting in genuine shock. Thought this isn’t the first time something like this has happened, people miss news all the time, watching it happen on live television in quite the sight. It’s kind of like a real life Jedi mind trick , you see his face drop and watch his expression go blank.
McGregor asked, “Is there new news today? What was the news today?” to which host Jimmy Kimmel proceeded to say, “There’s a disturbance in the Force today. They’re doing a Han Solo movie and a Boba Fett movie.” Jump ahead to the 3:10 mark for Ewan’s expression.
McGregor is absolutely confused, having to repeat it in order to make sense of it all. At least he’s able to laugh it all off, jokingly refering to Disney or Lucasfilm calling him back for some kind of cameo in either of the two films. Still, you have to love that look on his face.
