Let’s face it, no one watches a Muppet flick for continuity. Even back in the Jim Henson days each film was essentially its own standalone story.
So it should come as little surprise that James Bobin is re-creating probably the most well remembered and iconic moment from the original Muppet franchise: The Muppets…Again will feature (again) the wedding of Kermit The Frog and Miss Piggy.
(Since I was 7 years old I’ve wondered if this would make Piggy’s legal name “Piggy The Frog”–but I digress)
Muppet fans wil no doubt recall the wedding that capped off 1984’s The Muppets take Manhattan, but following films were…..well “unclear” as to whether or not the marriage took, and by 2011’s The Muppets, the couple’s romance seemed to be back to square one.
This info comes via/Film, who posted production designer Eve Stewart’s interview with the BBC, where she discussed her newest project:
“I’m now at Pinewood doing the Muppet show, and today has been one of the best days of my life, designing Miss Piggy’s wedding at the Tower of London…I’ve never been so happy.”
We’ll see if this new and improved Frog/Piggy union can top the ’80s original. Personally, since the wedding is apparently taking place in London, I’m hoping for a couple nice call-backs to The Great Muppet Caper.
The Muppets…Again will star Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais, and is due in theatres March 21st, 2014.
