The announcement that Peter Dinklage was joining the X-Men reunion Days of Future Past was met with tremendous excitement, somewhat less than exciting was the suggestion that he’d be playing perennial fan-favorite from Alpha Flight, Puck. Yeah, that’s no way to treat the critical and fan beloved actor from Game of Thrones and The Station Agent.
The second suggestion was the Dinklage would be playing a CG character via motion-capture, but that even seems like a waste of the considerable Dinklage talent. So it was put to Days director Bryan Singer. In an interview with IGN, Singer confirmed that Dinklage would not only not be playing Puck, but he’ll appear au natural in the film as well.
“He’s not going to be a CGI character,” Singer clarified. “He’ll be himself. Not that he’ll be playing Peter Dinklage, he’ll be playing this character. It’s not a shy character. He’s just such a phenomenal actor; I’m a huge fan of Peter’s and Game of Thrones. He was my first choice and I was really happy.”
Hm. Does this add credence to the possibility that Dinklage will play Sentinel creator Boliver Trask? MTV Geek has apparently confirmed this through their source. Interestingly, actor Bill Duke played a character called Trask in X-Men: Last Stand, so will Singer be re-writing continuity a bit? Does he even care? Then again, Kitty Pryde was played by three different actresses across three different movies.
Singer also said to expect more casting announcements soon. He’s in negotiations with one actor in particular and he’ll be making same news about “younger characters” soon.
More news as it develops.
