It wasn’t long ago that I myself wrote a semi-facetious list of potential directors for Star Wars: Episode VIII. I mean Episode VII is still just a gleam in JJ Abrams’ eye–I figured we’d at least have a few months before we’d hear any rumors worth reporting regarding who’s gonna helm the next one.

I suppose I was naive.

For now Market Saw is reporting that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuarón is at the top of the short list of possible Episode VIII–and even Episode IX directors. (He was NOT, by the by, on my list)

If we’re pretending that this report has any real credibility, then this news would have me split: Azkaban was my least favorite HP flick….it just didn’t seem to fit, by my lights. However, I loved Children of Men–so I could go either way on this one.

But before we start seriously pondering a Cuarón-directed SW entry, it should be noted that Market Saw ALSO reported that Simon Pegg would be joining the cast of the new trilogy–to which the actor responded, via Twitter:

(Tweets like this are why we love Simon Pegg!)
