On the heels of news that Daniel Radcliffe is set to play Igor in Max Landis’ new Frankenstein flick, Variety reports that another Harry Potter franchise star is in talks to play the lead in a different, yet every bit as classic and iconic story: Disney’s new live-action adaptation of Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Emma Watson, assuming she is cast (and she’d be dynamite in the role) will play opposite Cate Blanchett as her wicked stepmother–another piece of inspired casting.
Disney hopes to begin filming in London this fall aiming for a 2014 release. This film follows a new trend at the studio of producing live-action fairy tale/children’s literature adaptations. Cinderella will join the ranks of Disney productions like Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great And Powerful, and the upcoming Angelina Jolie vehicle: Maleficent.
