Images, quotes, rumors, reports, and speculations regarding Iron Man 3 have kicked up a notch recently. You practically can’t go a day without hearing about what trouble and triumphs are in store for Tony Stark.  It’s like people are excited about this movie or something….

Of course people are excited. It’s Iron Man. It’s Robert Downey Jr. It’s Marvel. It’s gonna be AWESOME!!!

Anyway, here we are with another dose IM3 talks. Literally, we have RDJ reflecting on getting the role, as well as writer/director Shane Black chatting about the future installments of the franchise. We also have a possible post credits spoiler. Keep reading and carry on.

Here’s what Downey Jr. had to say to Esquire about getting Iron Man:

I think Iron Man wound up being the first time I screen-tested since Chaplin. As far as I was concerned, it was destiny. Now, I can’t tell you how many people are sitting around with the cold, hard evidence that it wasn’t. I just wasn’t going to let lack of perseverance, lack of preparation, or lack of prayer get in the way. I just went crazy — in a good way. And suddenly it occurred to me, Oh my God, Stan Lee might not know this, but everything he created has all been leading to this moment. It’s me. Then I thought, Hold on a second, dude, is this just some sort of neurotic personality meltdown happening here? And then I thought, Nah, that feels different.

That’s RDJ for you, what a sack of silly he is.

Black talked to Premiere in a separate interview, and he talked a little about the future of the franchise saying:

I have the feeling that the story that we have developed for Iron Man 3 actually concluded a trilogy, while [also] leaving the door open to a fourth. I had a lot of discussions on this subject: “Is that it is the last Iron Man for Robert? ” . Something tells me that it will not be the case, and will be seen in a fourth, or fifth … But I can be a little excited.

He goes on to talk about being approached to direct the film,

When Marvel hires a director, the script of the film is generally already written. Except that they had someone who is a writer at the base … This was a problem at first, because they had already hired Drew Pierce to write Iron Man 3. I was like, “But I do not need this Drew Pierce, what’s the story?” (laughs) I finally agreed to meet him, and it was immediately heard. Today I am not only a fan of Drew Pierce, but I’ve also become a friend. He came [to my] home everyday, we asked our leaf and our pencil and brainstorming from morning to night. The script was really written for four hands. Excellent collaboration because they had already hired Drew Pierce to write.

When I first heard there were two writers, I initially thought “too many cooks in the kitchen”. I, of course, quickly dismissed the worrying notion. I trust these guys. I’ve got nothing but good vibes from the creatives involved. Passion and care have been exuded in everything I’ve seen and read thus far. I’m fairly certain IM3 will indeed be the best of the franchise. On that note: While I’d like to see RDJ continue being Iron Man, I kind of hope this is it for stand alone movies. When you go beyond three acts you start gambling with over exposure. I don’t ever want to look at RDJ and say “Alright, enough already”. I want him to go out on top. Know what I mean?

OK, so, wrapping up this article… information might have leaked out about the post-credits scene. This bit of information comes from a commenter on io9, so please take it with a grain of salt, but it does sound like something you could expect Marvel would do. If this IS true then it’s a HUGE SPOILER, so consider this your final warning.

Here’s what he said we’d see, and a theory of what it all means….

Apparently the SOS is received at the end of the movie, and is from one Star-Lord (mask and all), so Tony takes off to find him (noting that, with the space armor, he’s “ready this time”). Jarvis asks Tony where he’s going and Tony simply replies, “I’ll be back.” This heavily implies to me that Guardians of the Galaxy is probably going to take place before IM3, and will end with Starlord sending out the SOS (presumably Thanos is the source of distress and Starlord is warning them that he’s heading towards Earth) and that Avengers 2 is going to begin (or at some point involve) Tony bringing back the Guardians to help with Thanos.

Not gonna lie, that sounds pretty rad. I hope it pans out that way.

Iron Man 3 is set to open in 3D and 2D theaters on May 3rd, 2013
