With Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake fast approaching its release date, everyone ever involved with the franchise is getting harassed by fans and media who want to know more. Well, we happen to have heard a rumor or two and it looks like there could be plenty more in the future. First and foremost, Alvarez is all set to continue the story that he’s developed. Secondly, it looks like Sam Raimi, if he ever continues his own version, will be aiming at continuing Army of Darkness as opposed to the classic Evil Dead storyline.
Check it out after the jump.
It seems that Alvarez’s plan is to eventually put together a trilogy of films in his remake world. Some of the crew has already been signed on to tackle the second installment and the announcement that it is indeed being written is official.
I’m guessing it won’t follow the pattern of Raimi’s trilogy, being that Evil Dead 2 was basically a remake of the first one and trying to redo Army of Darkness could cause serious riots. We shall just have to wait and how this one pans out.
As far as Raimi’s involvement in the franchise goes, he’s recently been the subject of many on-again/off-again rumors revolving around him and Bruce Campbell getting back in the saddle to create an Evil Dead 4. One of Raimi’s production partners has clarified the rumors a small bit, stating that if the project goes forward, it would be an Army of Darkness 2 script and not chase the story of the first two flicks.
In a recent Q&A at the South by Southwest Film Festival, where Alvarez’s Evil Dead was premiered, the almighty Bruce Campbell had this to say about Raimi making a new film:
Sam threatens this every six months. I’ve heard this a thousand times, because in the back of his mind, he never wants to let go, because he loved making these movies. We all loved making them together. They were a nightmare to make, very difficult, but they lasted the test of time, so he’s not going to let that go, and I’m never going to say ‘no.’ It’ll be me and a walker fighting some other old guy. But that’s what he does and who knows? It may happen.
Again, we’ll just have to wait and see, possibly another decade or two, to see if the world is going to get more Army of Darkness storyline.
In the meanwhile, just check out the Evil Dead remake come April 5th and see if it’s even worth it to make more.
