Considering that Rob Thomas’ Kickstarter campaign for a Veronica Mars movie met its minimum goal of $2 million in about 12 hours, it should hardly come as a surprise that others now might want to follow in his example.
Enter Zachary Levi, the former star of the NBC series Chuck, the spy-fy rom-com that wrapped last season after sputtering five years on the air built mostly through the engagement of fans. That’s the kind of fanaticism that can translate into real dollars, dollars that can be used to fund, say, a Chuck movie?
Let’s go to Levi live on Twitter:
So the gauntlet’s been tossed down. Does Chuck co-creator Josh Schwartz have anything to add?
There’s the rub. Veronica Mars, what was essentially a weekly noir detective story set in high school, is way easier (read: cheaper) to produce than something like Chuck, which would require it’s fair share of high- octane action sequences. I assume Schwartz was joking about the CG beard for Morgan, but a Chuck movie would need some serious cash to be “kickstarted.”
What do you think Bastards? Could the money be raised to make a Chuck movie a reality? Would you take part? Sound off below.
