In the last week, we here at Nerd Bastards have had Warner Brother’s Man of Steel and the magazine Total Film paired together almost exclusively. Once again we dip into the well of print, as another of the magazine’s interviews is released. This time with Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer.

Having being with the project since 2010, with Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan producing, the pair wanted to keep plot points and story details quite secret. In a world of social media, however, such spoiler blockage is damn near impossible. Yet, somehow, the cast, crew and creatives have been able to keep tight lipped; with little being revealed.

So, when the concept of secrecy was brought up, the talented comic book writer, producer and director was quick to respond:

“It’s something Chris [Nolan] tried hard to do with the Batman films,” Goyer said. “I’m genuinely pleased with how much secrecy we’ve been able to maintain. There’s so much of the movie that people don’t know, that hasn’t been touched upon. The trailer’s just the tiniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg.”

If we haven’t seen as much as we thought, does this mean that the tone of Henry Cavill’s Superman will be any different in Man of Steel? Superman is usually one of the more forgiving of DC’s line of heroes, but has Goyer adopted a darker approach to this film?

“Relatable and realistic doesn’t necessarily mean dark. I think it would be inappropriate for us to approach a Superman film as if we were doing The Dark Knight. The Batman films are a lot more nihilistic; Superman has always been a story about hope.”

Seeing as how we’ve only seen the “tip of the iceberg” Goyer and company must have something really special on tap for those of us to look forward to in the coming months. Guess we’ll all have to wait and see.

Man of Steel; staring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe, Michael Kelly, Harry Lennix and Richard Schiff htis theaters everywhere June 14th.
