‘Chuck’ Star Gearing Up for His Own Kickstarter

Zachary-Levi

In the fallout of the success of the Veronica Mars Kickstarter, it’s been actor Zachary Levi who’s has been most vocal about the possibility of following in their example. Levi’s show, the spy-rom-com Chuck, ended after five struggling seasons on NBC, but that doesn’t mean that fans, or Levi himself, don’t want more.

In fact, Levi is banking on it. In a recent conversation with Next Movie, Levi says that he’s getting ready to move forward with a Chuck Kickstarter and a Chuck movie, he’s just got to iron out the kinks with some of the other stakeholders. Here’s what Levi has to say:

“I’ve always thought doing a Chuck movie would be fun. If we had just gone straight to monetizing it and selling it directly to the fans then, we might still actually be on the air.

[But] there’s a lot of conversations that need to happen. I’m going to sit down with [producers] Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak and just kind of gauge their temperature on it. See how much they’d want to be involved. Of course, I’d only want to do it with the blessing of them, they created the show, and the blessing of Warner Bros.”

Now before you go hitting your local Subway to celebrate with a $5 foot-long, this is far from a done deal. Schwartz already commented on Twitter that a Chuck movie would take a load more capital to get going than a Veronica Mars movie, which came in at a relatively cheap $2 million. Of course, in the couple of weeks since the campaign began collecting its targeted amount in less than 24 hours, the money flow has slowed down to a crawl, struggling to cross the $4 million mark. One has to wonder what that might mean for Chuck or any other former TV turned indie movie project in the ether.

What to do you think, Bastards? Are you eagerly saving your pennies for the Chuck Kickstarter?
