This weekend, at WonderCon Anaheim, Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez and producer Bruce Campbell showed off some snazzy new footage from the reboot to an eager crowed. After which, the two took to the mics and fielded some questions. In the midst of all the fanfare, one fan brought up the possibility of both the original Evil Dead and this new franchise merging. The answer was quite surprising…
Bruce directed the question to Alvarez, who said it was dream to to see the two franchises eventually merge into some form of bloody entertainment. It wouldn’t be far fetched either, as fans of both iterations of the franchise have speculated the films take place in the same universe.
According to Fede, the plan would be to develop the sequel while Sam Raimi develops Army of Darkness 2 eventually merging both Mia, the hero of the Alvarez’s Evil Dead, and Ash’s stories together.
That in itself, sounds awesome. Something to which Campbell replied:
“I think seven is a nice number.”
Currently there is no sure fire confirmation in all of this, but it would be a welcome addition to the Evil Dead history having fresh blood working alongside Ash to destroy the Necronomicon. With Sam currently writing Army of Darkness 2 this summer and Fede’s work on this reboot any future sequel Ghost House Pictures or FilmDistrict has in mind could be the start of another trilogy of proper shock and awesome.
