With the tragic exit of Damian Wayne, Batman is in need of new Robin, and who better to fill those tights than Carrie Kelley. Wait. Is she even canon? Does she even wear tights!? It’s the next in a string of “WTF” moments – which we’re assured stands for ‘What the Fifty-Two!’ – DC has been incorporating into their comics. Featured on the cover of Batman & Robin #19 is none other than Carrie Kelley, the Robin of Frank Miller‘s The Dark Knight Returns, and it heralds her introduction to The New 52,
About damn time we saw a girl Robin. The last and only canonical female Robin was Stephanie Brown, and since Dan Didio seems to hold some personal grudge against the girl, she hasn’t been seen or heard of since the reboot. Now, does Carrie appearing on this cover, particular during this silly “WTF” event, mean she’s replacing Damian? Maybe. Writer Peter Tomasi spoke to the NY Post about Carrie’s introduction,
What you’ll find out once you crack the book, is that she’s not exactly the ‘new Robin,’ but I don’t want to spoil the story and her introduction into Bruce Wayne/Batman’s life. In regards to how long she’ll be around, let’s just say that it’s a helluva lot longer than ‘one issue.’ I’ve got plans for Carrie that play well into the future.
Whether she’ll really take on the role of Bat’s new sidekick isn’t exactly clear, but Tomasi promises Carrie’s introduction to The New 52 is the real deal,
It’s all real. It’s all in continuity. It’s all part of the Batman universe in the here and now. Carrie Kelley has found her way into The New 52 and she’s here to stay – in what capacity is anybody’s guess – except mine of course.
What do you think of Carrie Kelley joining The New 52? Think she’ll become Bruce’s right hand gal?
