Those of us who are fans of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and of Guillermo del Toro’s film adaptations have been eagerly watching the news to see whether or not del Toro is planning on presenting us with a third installment in the movie franchise. There have been many rumors going back and forth, but according to the latest, it looks like “No” is the most likely answer.
In a recent interview with MTV, Mignola had this to say:
It’s hard to find who finances it. It’s the biggest chapter of the three movies. Hellboy becomes the beast of the apocalypse. We’ve inquired, but so far, if you know a rich uncle with $130 million…
A little while back, del Toro said much the same thing, though his estimate of cost was a bit higher. So it looks like it’s just a question of cash flow and investment. Unfortunately, Hellboy really is a movie that needs tons of cash to be done properly.
$140 million kickstarter anyone?
