It’s that time of year – time for Entertainment Weekly‘s annual Summer Movie Preview issue! And the cover boy this year is newly minted Superman Henry Cavill in Man of Steel.
More importantly, the issue has details about the film’s story. For instance, director Zack Snyder reveals that there’s no kryptonite in the film saying that the previous films have gone to that well so many times that the only way to be distinctive was to not have any kryptonite at all.
EW also confirmed that despite the emotional and sombre footage we’ve seen so far, this movie will have plenty of action to satisfy fans.
Based on footage EW has seen, the film (which was directed by Zack Snyder and shepherded by Christopher Nolan) has plenty of building-smashing, train-slinging, heat-vision-blasting battles to cut through the emotional heaviness. “You want to give the audience great spectacle. You want them to go to the movie, be eating their popcorn and be like, ‘Wow!’” saysMan of Steel producer Chuck Roven, who also worked on The Dark Knight trilogy. “But it’s just not good enough to give them the ‘Wow.’ You want them to be emotionally engaged. Because if you just have the ‘wow,’ ultimately you get bludgeoned by that and you stop caring.”
And that’s just the beginning of the details dug up by EW. The digital version of the magazine comes out on iPad tomorrow and the print edition will be out on newstands Friday.
