Principle filming has begun on Matt Reeves’ Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The Daily Mail has brought us the first on set pictures of the cast and crew filming in a forest just outside Vancouver, Canada. Andy Serkis and movement guru Terry Notary are in their trademark dotty body suits with a group of other apes to be. There’s also Keri Russell, Jason Clark, Kirk Acevedo and some other humans who are actually playing human beings.
Serkis is reprising the lead role of Caesar, and one would assume that Notary will be playing Rocket again. Although adversaries through most of the first film, the movies end found them teaming up to escape. This new found friendship will most likely be short lived though, it’s expected that we’ll see trouble in the land of apes as they rise in power.
The big question is will the other apes begin talking by now? I am expecting, and hoping that we’ll get some version of the classic “Ape shall not kill Ape.” law and subsequent breaking of that law. That was a powerful story line and scene in the original series of movies.
A group of scientists in San Francisco struggle to stay alive in the aftermath of a plague that is wiping out humanity, while Caesar tries to maintain dominance over his community of intelligent apes.
