Robert-Downey-Jr.-in-Iron-Man-3

The Marvel movies have made it more rewarding to sit through their lengthy credits with the post-credits scene. First seen at the very end of Iron Man, the short sequence between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was the beginning of what would become known as Phase 1, the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first step towards The Avengers. In that film they changed things up even a little more by including a mid-credits scene in addition to the now infamous, post-credit Shawarma scene.

Iron Man 3 continues this tradition and since the film has already held a premiere in Paris there are those – like the attendee who gave this description to Latino-Review – who are willing to share just what the new post-credits sequence is. Want to know? Hit the jump for their description. Obvious SPOILER warning, is obvious.

Okay, and before we dive right into it I’m going to preface this with a few things that it’s not. Just to make any disappointment sting a little less. It is not an Ant-Man reveal, nor is it Tony flying off in a space-Iron Man suit to assist the Guardians. Though, let’s not rule those possibilities out for a mid-credits scene, for as seen in The Avengers, that scene tends to be more significant and reveals a little of what’s to come.

Okay? Ready for the very end of Iron Man 3?

It starts with a close shot of Tony Stark on a couch talking about his various traumas, obviously he’s talking to someone, as if he was seeing a shrink, the tone of the scene is light and supposedly funny. Then we discover that the person he’s talking to is Bruce Banner/Mark Ruffalo, who fell asleep because of Tony’s boring story. Tony remarks that Banner has been sleeping during the most part of his story and yells at him, and Banner just mumbles and says “You know, I’m not that kind of doctor!” Then Tony recalls another memory and resumes his monologue, and then we see Banner starting to fall asleep again.

The Tony Stark/Bruce Banner bromance lives on!

First thought, Tumblr is going to explode. Second thought, this kind of scene makes it clear from now on the post-credit bit will be used for more comedic effect rather than to tease what’s coming. Which I’m completely okay with, humor is a very important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What d’ya think? Good end scene? Wish it was more revealing than a funny moment between science bros?

Iron Man 3 releases May 3rd.
