But, before everyone gets their hopes up too high, it’s not in the 50th Anniversary episode and it’s not as if he’s coming back to provide new material. Yup, this season on Doctor Who we’ll get recycled-Eccelston dialogue. Umm, hooray? I guess when the guy decides not to join in for the 50th hoopla but fans still demand his inclusion someway, somehow, this what ya get.
The sort of Christopher Eccleston, audio only, cameo will come in next week’s episode, “Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS.” What will he say? “The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn’t get through these doors, and believe me they’ve tried.” Yup, it’s from Eccelston’s very first episode, “Rose,” and it appears the TARDIS is cycling through past memories in order to express herself. The line’s heard when the salvage crew that captures the TARDIS, sending it into lock down with Clara trapped inside, try and break in.
It’s a nice gesture, and maybe it’ll make Nine’s fans smile, but really, too little too late. Unless hearing these past voices from the TARDIS prove to be important, which it very well could. What do you think of this development? Pandering or is there some significance?
