As the season of television series pickups, renewals, and cancellations draws to a close there’s only a few more shows whose future hang in the balance. One of those is NBC’s Hannibal, which still hasn’t received confirmation whether it’ll be renewed or not, and does not appear on the NBC’s fall schedule. Another is the CW‘s Wonder Woman prequel, Amazon.
At CW’s upfronts earlier today, CW Topper Mark Pedowitz confirmed with Entertainment Weekly Amazon wasn’t dead, but remains in development and won’t be seen in the coming 2013-2014 season.
Oh God, yes. It’s being redeveloped. We don’t want to produce something that doesn’t do the franchise justice. It’s the trickiest of all the DC characters.
A leaked casting notice from last year told us who they’re looking to cast as the Amazon Princess. They want a young woman, as this series will be exploring Diana’s teenage years, though the casting names the woman as Iris, and she must be 5’8 or taller. Diana– err, Iris, comes from a, “secluded country where she was raised as a solider in a brutal environment. Now a stranger in a strange modern big city, she’s a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic and she will fight to the death to make the world safe.”
Pedowitz assures EW these “basics” are still present in their development of Amazon, but that they need to work on perfecting the execution. Which I’m all for. If they do a Wonder Woman televisions series, they need to do it right. Think we’ll see Amazon in another year or so? Or is the Amazonian not fit for TV?
