First off, before we get anywhere near what Karl Urban has to say about a Dredd sequel, let’s all take a deep breath, that’s it, now exhale. Dredd fans will have to take this with a grain of salt. In a recent interview, Urban was asked about the possibility of fans ever seeing a sequel to the popular, yet financially disappointing, Dredd. Here’s what Urban said:
“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”
When your the face of a struggling franchise you just don’t close ANY doors, no matter how small the chance that someone might open that door. I do love that Urban put the ball firmly into the fans hands. If we want to see it, then we’ll have to get vocal about it to get anything done.
Do you want to see a Dredd sequel someday and would you be willing to put your money where your mouth is for Dredd II?
