I know I’ve said it before, but behind all the big superhero and sci-fi blockbusters releasing this summer, my number one pick for movie I most desperately need to see is The World’s End. The final chapter of Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg‘s Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy – Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz comprising the first two slots – releases in the U.S. on August 23rd, which is an agonizing month after it releases in the U.K. on July 19th. Those limey bastards. First Iron Man 3, then Star Trek Into Darkness, now The World’s End!? How come they’re getting all the movies first!? I mean, sure, at least this one’s their movie, but way to rub salt in the wound by making us wait another month!
Believe me, you’ll feel my pain once you watch the full trailer.
In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
The flick also stars Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike. Again, releasing in August, how badly do you want to see it?
