It’s on. It’s off. It’s on. It’s off. Well, looks like it might be back on.
At the Retailers Conference at the MCM London Comic-Con today, a rep from Rebellion, the publisher of 2000 A.D., the magazine that launched the Judge Dredd character, told attendees that a planned sequel to last fall’s Dredd 3-D isn’t entirely dead. Indeed, the exact words of the rep, courtesy of Bleeding Cool, is that a sequel “could still be happening.”
What that means is now unclear, but fans have been on a yo-yo ride concerning a future Judge Dredd movie since the film’s release last fall. While Dredd was critically very successful, and very well received by fans, it was not so successful at the box office. Previous benchmarks, like high DVD sales, have been established as possible red lines to determine whether or not a sequel could be made, but when last discussed it seemed like the most fans might get in the near-term is some kind of short film project. But now, it seems, that the door’s been open again for a sequel
More news as it develops, obviously, but for the Dredd fans out there – Hey, there’s hope!
