The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey featured a lot of folks who appeared in The Lord of the Rings trilogy but had nothing to do with the Hobbit story, folks like Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond, and Frodo, and future installments of The Hobbit will feature the return (preturn?) of Legolas. But what about Aragorn? Was their no room for King Elessar Telcontar of Gondor in the prequels?
Well, The Guardian went out and got a genuine answer for the curious from Aragorn’s portrayer, Viggo Mortensen.
“Before they started shooting, back in 2008, one of the producers did ask if I would be interested. I said, ‘You do know, don’t you, that Aragorn isn’t in The Hobbit? That there is a 60-year gap between the books?’”
Bazinga! Take that Hollywood producers. Viggo Mortensen, with logic, for the win.
But alas, it would have been cool to see Mortensen suit up as Aragorn, right? Perhaps you disagree (and I encourage you to weight in with your opinion below).
