Does this cast just keep getting bigger and better or what!? Let’s recap where we are at the moment. Of the core team there’s Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Dave Bautista as Drax. Michael Rooker is playing Yondu, John C. Reilly was recently offered an unspecified but possibly Coulson-like role, and Glenn Close is on board as their Nick Fury. Lee Pace and Karen Gillan are villains, and now Benicio Del Toro is in.
Whew! That’s a big cast. Will Guardians of the Galaxy be able to withstand so much star, and specifically, nerd-star power? I don’t know, but if I have faith in any studio to wrangle this many actors and make it work, it’s Marvel.
What’s interesting to note about Del Toro’s deal is he’s been signed for an unspecified number of films. Similar to say Samuel L. Jackson or Mark Ruffalo’s deals. This means Del Toro’s role must play a part in the larger scheme of the MCU. To help with your speculations, the buzz is Del Toro’s a villain. I mean, come on, you don’t cast a guy like Del Toro in your superhero, space adventure and not make him the bad guy, right? Hmm, but who’s a big enough villain to appear in Guardians and play into a larger threat for all of the MCU, possibly coming into play in Avengers 2? Maybe I’m way off base here, but what are you thinking?
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit theatres August 1st, 2014.
