Every week, this month and last, it feels like there’s been a casting announcement for Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, and with production beginning soon there’s only two more roles left to fill: Groot, a sentient tree-creature, and Rocket Raccoon, a, uhm, raccoon. Yesterday director James Gunn tweeted a picture from a meeting he had with a possible candidate for Rocket,
Aw, just look at him. He’s got the makings of a star! But, I fear, he’s not a really a likely candidate. Gunn tweeted along with the picture, “I’ve just hired a new gaffer for the shoot. Chewing on wires is good, right?” and producer Victoria Alonso already ruled out potential raccoon motion capture,”You can’t do any motion capture with a raccoon – they won’t let you put the suit on [laughs]. But we will do rotomation, probably, for some of the behavior.” Hence, the meeting with this little guy.
So, now I wonder if this is any indication of the size they want for Rocket? And does the decision to rotoscope mean they’re leaning towards a Rocket Raccoon that’s as life-like as possible, not cartoony?
