Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at email@example.com.
ABOVE: While preparing today’s column, I had a thought: “What if I went into Etsy’s ‘Geekery’ category and sorted by ‘highest price?’ The answer is this stained glass Iron Man panel. It will set you back $3,500 with 10% of that going to charity. It’s certainly not in my budget, but it’s rather awesome to look at.
I must be missing the humor gene because I don’t usually find Grump Cat amusing. In fact, I find him tiresome…. except when he portrays every single member of the Justice League of America! I can’t stop giggling. Although, as MTVGeek points out, Batman is always grumpy, so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t too difficult for Grumpy Cat to get into character for that one.
Built for the Red Bull Soapbox Race, this soapbox Starship Enterprise took Rob Wixey two months to make. Of course, Wixey wasn’t going to keep this thing hidden until July 14th, he took it to the premier of Star Trek Into Darkness. If I had it, I’d take it everywhere.
Presenting Sushiwoks! Sushi that looks like Ewoks. I don’t know if I could eat these. They’re too adorable. Obvious Winner has more photos that will make you go “awwww” and “yum” at the same time.
If you are a nerd with kids, or like me, a nerdy aunt with nerdier nieces and nephews, you’ve experienced this important moment in your nerdy child’s life – the day when they make the ultimate choice. [Fashionably Geek]
Patrick Stewart posted this to his Twitter yesterday. It needs no comment.
Most of us don’t have liquor cabinets. We keep our liquor under our beds, on the floor or hidden inside our desk drawers but for the stylish Star Wars lovin’ Steampunk nerd, liquor is kept in this gigantic Steampunk AT-AT liquor cabinet. Geekologie has a few close-up photos of this beautiful handmade wooden cabinet.
I’m never particularly witty when I post incredible things like these Steampunk cosplays of Batgirl and Supergirl. All I can think is “SOMEONE GIVE ME THOSE BOOTS” and “SOMEONE GIVE ME THOSE RUFFLE SHORTS.” [Geeks Are Sexy]
This gets my WTF?! vote for the day. According to PopSci, there’s a study out there about how the faces of LEGO characters have become “increasingly more aggressive.” Really? This is study-worthy? The study goes on to say “The children that grow up with LEGO today will remember not only smileys, but also anger and fear in the Minifigures’ faces.” That’s right, gentlenerds! LEGOS ARE RUINING YOUR CHILDREN! Sigh.
Watch as these adorable elementary school kids perform the Super Mario Opera. [YouBentMyWookie]
Many Trembley discusses his Kickstarter for RGB, a wordless graphic novel about dealing with life, loss and love. Having recently experienced a severe loss in my own life, I wanted to give this a little plug. Donate, will you?
