While my hopes for an all out monster brawl à la the “classic” Destroy All Monsters isn’t very likely, this latest film description hints at more than just Godzilla appearing in Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla. Taken from a press release outlining the film’s more marketable aspects the inclusion of “creatures” – notice the plural – has me excited.
Featuring spectacular creatures, thrilling action, epic battles and a legendary monster, Godzilla provides the backbone for a monstrous merchandise offering for fans of all ages and enables compelling cross-category opportunities across mass and specialty retailers.
And what speaks better to marketing than the promise of multiple toys parents will need to purchase for their kids in order to create a truly righteous kaiju smackdown. Okay, okay, not all adults will be buying these toys for kid, believe me, I get that. I won’t rule out buying a sweet Godzilla for myself. I also wonder if these “creatures” will be notable kaiju from the franchise or just fodder for Godzilla to destroy? Come on, give me a new Anguirus!
Speaking of which, while nothing has been confirmed, I consider it a safe bet Godzilla will be all over this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Expect the lizard king’s final design to be revealed in Hall H, if not earlier.
What classic kaiju would you like to see appear in Godzilla? Rodan? Mothra? Ghidorah?
