Daenerys Targaryen is justifiably one of the most popular characters in the Game of Thrones. Not only is she ethereally beautiful, but her strength, independence, resolve, cunning, and ability to grow and adapt has galvanized her as a beacon of power, respect, and inspiration. With that said, is she influential enough for you wanna name your child after?

According to The Baby Name Wizard Blog, there are now 146 American little girls named Khaleesi, and that number is up 450 percent from 2011—the year where the show Game of Thrones started airing on HBO.

Kkaleesi is her Dothraki title, not her birth name. She is Daenerys Targaryen, “The Mother of Dragons”, The Un-Burned”, and  “Breaker of Chains”. Hell, she’s got more nicknames than Apollo Creed! None of which, though, are as pretty or as unique as Khaleesi. I, for one, would name my child (Mrs. Nerd Bastards and I are actually planning on it) based on my admiration of the character. Of course, that just might be my nerdy sensibilities talking.

Would naming your kid Khalessi set her up for a lifetime for ridicule? Remember, “Leesi” would be a cute short name.

In any case, I’m glad to see that quality characters like Danni are climbing up the baby name book. Maybe, one day, she’ll take lead over epically bland characters like Bella and Edward from those sparkly vampire stories.
